When a physician-directed formulation is used, this loading is at the discretion of the surgeon. The literature on rational methods for determining the antibiotic loading to use when preparing a physician-directed ALBC formulation is very limited.

In fact, only Lewis and Janna [ 20 ] have presented such methods but that work has two limitations. First, the activity of the eluate against susceptible microorganism s implicated in PJI was not included in the collection of cement properties determined.

There is scope for further work to develop rational methods for determining this loading.

Therefore we present a new method for determining this loading, involving experimentally determining various cement properties, each as a function of antibiotic loading; performing correlational analyses of these results; and applying a nonlinear minimization method. We then illustrate the use of this method by utilizing three in vitro properties of a daptomycin-loaded PMMA bone cement.

The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the specication. Referenced Documents 2.

Current edition approved Sept. Published October Originally published as A — Process 3. If secondary melting is employed, the heat shall be dened as all of the ingots remelted from a single primary heat. When steel of different grades is sequentially strand cast, identication of the resultant transition material is required.

The producer shall remove the transition material by an established procedure that positively separates the grades. Chemical Composition 4.

If secondary melting processes are employed, the heat analysis shall be obtained from one remelted ingot or the product of one remelted ingot of each primary melt. The chemical composition thus determined, or that determined from a product analysis made by the tubular product manufacturer shall conform to the requirements specied. For this requirement, a grade is dened as an alloy described individually and identied by its own UNS designation in a table of chemical requirements within any specication listed within the scope as being covered by this specication.

Mechanical Requirements 5. When using small or subsize specimens, the largest one possible shall be used. Tensile Requirements 6. Permissible Variation in Weight 7. Unless otherwise specied, pipe of NPS 4 and smaller may be weighed in convenient lots; pipe in sizes larger than NPS 4 shall be weighed separately.

Permissible Variations in Wall Thickness 8. The minimum wall thickness on inspection for — There shall be no variation under the specied wall thickness.

Permissible Variations in Inside Diameter 9. There shall be no variation over the specied inside diameter.

Permissible Variations in Outside Diameter The tolerances on outside diameter include ovality except as provided for in However, for thin-wall pipe the difference in extreme outside diameter readings ovality in any one cross-section shall not exceed 1. Permissible Variations in Length Standard Weight These standard sizes do not prohibit the production and use of other sizes of pipe produced to the various specications referenced to this Specication.

The better yellowing resistance of the silane-modified epoxy coating on weathering under UV B exposure, compared to that of neat epoxy coating, is attributed to the formation of Si—O—C bond in the backbone of epoxy resin.

Thus, there is an overall bond strengthening for the silane-modified epoxy on MTMS modification which imparts better weathering resistance compared to unmodified epoxy on UV B exposure. The lowering effect was observed even after 80 hours of UV B exposure indicating that the silane modification imparted stabilized weathering resistance to the epoxy coatings.

The comparative FTIR spectra for the unmodified and silane-modified epoxy coated panels after first two cycles 16 hours and 5 cycles 80 hours of UV B exposure causing noticeable yellowing are as shown in Figures 7 , 8 , and 9. The FTIR results were further affirmed by evaluating the carbonyl index for the weathered epoxy coatings. Carbonyl index method detects the creation of carbonyl groups within the weathered material indicating degradation through oxidation after accelerated weathering.

Aesteiron's Accreditation

As epoxies are prone to chain scission and undergo photooxidation on weathering forming carbonyl compounds, carbonyl index value is a quantitative measure of photodegradation. The carbonyl index values thus obtained were plotted as shown in Figure As observed in Figure 10 , MTMS-modified epoxy coating showed lower carbonyl index value compared to neat epoxy coating, indicating lower chain scission and consequently less yellowing.

The spectrophotometric results were, thus, evidenced by FTIR results and carbonyl index measurements. It was, thus, confirmed that the Si—O—C linkage grafted onto the epoxy polymeric backbone offered resistance to the chain scission reaction on UV B exposure and caused lowered yellowing and discoloration. Conclusions The silane modification was found to effectively enhance the yellowing resistance of the epoxy coating during UV B exposure.

The Si—O—C linkage grafted onto the epoxy polymeric backbone effectively offers resistance to chain scission reactions and consequently to photodegradation, imparting weathering resistance to the epoxy polymeric backbone.

The FTIR results and carbonyl index measurements confirmed the spectrophotometric results. The carbonyl index values were effectively lowered for the weathered MTMS-modified epoxy coating compared to the neat epoxy coating.
